Well what have we here? Derelique to true
One man’s junk is
another mans treasure. Those wise words could never be more true. And its
not everyday that you would see that something considered as a waste can be
created beautifully into a useful item or even…yes, fashion.
Well at NWSD we are all extremely excited about what we will be
taking on in the coming month of may. And in true style of bringing the
mountain to Mohammed we are doing the fashion shows in three various
cities, The City Mall in Klerksdorp on the 14’th of May and
again in River Square Mall in Vereeniging and theCrossings Mall in
Mafikeng on the 28’th of May. What a Jam Packed two weeks
indeed! And to make things a lot more interesting we have a special twist,
forget silk, cotton, denim and all the regular fabrics, think pamphlets,
bags, receipts and bubble wrap. All garments and accessories are made from
materials given to the students by the various occupants of the respective
mall. Each shop will then be represented on the catwalk by designs made by
the students. It is indeed an event to definitely diarize! Have a look at
our events column and make sure you circle the date of a venue closest to
you. Feel Free to check out our Facebook page as well with regular updates
of the progress and interesting tidbits.
Fabulous painting technique for the modern
I simply love the modern painting techniques seen on
certain furniture, ornaments or frames. It is why I am so excited
about our Painting Technique workshop taking place on the 21’st of
May. You don’t need to be an accomplished artist to be able to
do these techniques. It is the perfect opportunity to take that old
eyesore of a coffee table and transform it into something you'll display at
the entrance of your house. Various techniques will be discussed such as
sponging and crackling. The materials used will also be explained in
full detail and one-on-one assistance with project is available. All
you need to bring along is a pen and paper. It is extremely
affordable when compared to similar courses and keeping in mind that it is
a single workshop. From 09:00 to 13:00 you will be taught all the skills to
blow new life into old and ugly objects with hidden beauty and potential.
Time is of the essence and places are limited.Don’t miss this
opportunity, call now!
Snaphot Celebration and Exhibition.
Our most popular and in demand
course at the moment is without a doubt, our Photography course, and it can
be seen in the quality of photo’s that were on display on the
25-27’th of March at the Klerksdorp Museum. Salome Kotze, editor of the
local Klerksdorp Record and Award winning photographer is the lecturer for
this popular course.
The Klerksdorp Museum
was a buzz of excitement and activity as members of the public could view
some of NWSD’s students best photo’s which included various
categories, Black and white, still life, landscape and movement snapshots
were all on gracing the cold prison walls of the museum. If the exhibition
had to be measured by the positive feedback from the public it would be
agreed that the event was a phenomenal success. Esmè Freylink walked
away with the prize for best overall and Still Life photo. And Ansoria
Geldenhys walked away with the best landscape and husband Koos Geldenhys
shot the best portrait picture. Madelein Duvenhage won the judges over and
won best Black & White photo.
It is for this reason
that the public demanded an extended photography course from the 12
September to 28'th of September and continues after the term.. And it is
with this being said, that we would like to extend our gratitude to
Salomè Kotze for improving the photography abilities of our
Celebrities and now Miss S.A. - Gert Johan Coetzee,
its a big thing.
It seems that the talents of Gert Johan
Coetzee knows no bounds. And very recently current Miss South Africa Bokang
Montjane was seen wearing one of Mr Coetzee’s creations at the recent
SA Fashion Week. Principal Marlene and Charles Ooshtuizen attended as
SAFW VIP guests. Bursting with pride at the success of Mr Coetzee, Miss
Montjane radiated with beauty as she was dressed in yet another outfit made
by our golden child. It seems indeed that Gert Johan seems to be moving
from strength to strength. It is with pride that we would like to wish him
further luck for the future ahead.

Let me entertain you!
Ah the joy, or the
horror when it comes to being a hostess, some people thrive on it, others
seem to tremble at the mere thought. Deciding on a menu, designing it.
Greeting, Seating, Eating! Serving, washing and being a good host!
What a mouthful! Would
you not be interested in learning exactly the skills needed to sweep your
guests feet from under them? Well. Ladies and gentleman being a good host
does not mean long hours of training, not at all. On June 4’th of May
we will be hosting a single day workshop to teach the necessary knowledge
to apply when organizing the next event or dinner party. R375 will book
your place. And all you need to bring is a book and pen. You will learn
many things including the proper table setting, creating easy and stunning
menu’s and table display’s , proper etiquette when it comes to
serving and much more. Have a look at our Diary Column and phone now to
book your place. We are expecting many calls so make sure you
guarantee your place. So…do you still feel afraid of the
