Thank you!

Before I layout the news, I would like to thank you for all the replies I received from last month's newsletter.  Your replies, requests and well wishes really helped me in planning courses & events according to your needs.  I enjoyed chatting to you all via email.  But remember you can also join our Facebook page.

As a result of all your requests we have decided to enrol fulltime students for July intakes.  This was not in the planning, but so many of you asked for this as there are so many fashionistas out there that missed the January intakes and regsitrations.

We have also listened to suggestions on workshops you are interested in and thus we could plan & schedule more effectively.

Thank you, for it is not everyone that can say their customers are begging them to provide them with a product or service!

Gert-Johan Coetzee takes over the yellow carpet at the SAMA's!

Celebrity fashion designer Gert-Johan Coetzee who graduated at the North West School of Design back in 2005 designed dresses for Lira, Thembi Seete, and Bonang Matheba for the SAMA's which took place at Sun City on Saturday, 17 April.  All three his dresses were voted "Best Dressed" out of thousands of other designer dresses.

He was also called the designer of the evening by numerous publications!.  In one day 35 000 people went to view Lira's dress on the Internet, it was also mentioned thousands of times on Twitter and Facebook.

Gert-Johan was also nominated as one of the top 10 designers in South Africa by Bona magazine!.  This year his designs were also voted best dressed at the SAFTA's, as well as the J&B Met, an achievement like this has never been reached by any other designer in South Africa!

Here is Lira, Bonang, Thembi and Gert Johan.

Mafikeng, here we come!

Over the years, we have been inundated with requests to present our popular part time courses in Mafikeng.  We have presented the Interior decor course over there as a test run.  But now, in 2010, the Mafikeng crowd seem to not be able to wait any longer for other courses.  So, what are we do to, but strike while the iron is hot?.

Yes, soon, very soon, the Mafikeng folks will notice the official North West School of Design Mafikeng Satelite Campus.  All the part time courses and workshops that are presented in Klerksdorp will also be presented over there.

Matric Dress Give-away!

We will be well represented at the Vodacom Durban July Young Designers Awards!

NWSD has hit the fashion world for a six, or well a three again! 2010 sees three fulltime students selected for the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Awards 2010.
Over 440 entries have been received nationwide, and Ofelia Andrade, Yolande Maree (second year students) and Stiena Hoffmann (first year student) is now working around the clock to complete their garments for the final judging on the 28th of May 2010 in Johannesburg.
The panel of judges this year include, Luzilla Booysen (Director of SA Fashion Week) and well-known fashion designer, David Tlale.
The garments designed for this year's competition had to be designed according to the theme, "It is a blooming good day." Students used, flowers, greenery and nature as inspiration to complete their designs.  Here is Yolande Maree's storyboard entry for the competition.  I will upload all three storyboards on the facebook page.
