WHY?

Sewing gives participants, the chance to be creative, focussed and self-directed on a goal of their own choosing!

The precision work of sewing enhances eye-hand coordination skills

Problem solving often comes into play with short sewing projects.

Sewing teaches participants the perseverance in order to complete the sewing project

Enables participants to use mental energy and critical thinking.

Sewing re-awakens creativity, inspires thought and provokes interest for learning

Each student that completes their garment, will receive a Soft Skills Sewing Certificate

Students receive individual assistance from NWSD Fulltime Students (if requested)

 

WHEN?

OPTION 1 – HOLIDAY SEWING FUN

 18 to 20 June 2019

Day 1 – Get to know your machine with loads of fun sewing projects

Day 2 – Cut & Sew your own dress!

Day 3 – Dress up! We are going to have a Fashion Photo Shoot by NWSD Alumni and well-known photographer, Melanie Els of Melanie Els Photography.

 

WHAT WILL THEY MAKE?

They can make a tunic top or a tunic dress.

Choose a straight cut, A-line or slight flare silhouette!

Each participant will select their perfect pattern size and length by first fitting on our sample range

NWSD will offer a whole variety of material to choose from. 

 

WHAT DO I NEED?

MATERIAL

 

Each student will select their fabric from the fabrics supplied by NWSD.  This is to ensure that their first garment is made with a ‘starter fabric’ that is easy to sew.

We will ensure to have a variety of prints and colours to choose from. 

You can let us know what your favourite colour is, and we will be sure to include it into the selection. 

SEWING KIT

 

Each student requires to bring the following:  If they do not have this at home, then please ensure to order the sewing kit with registration. (R250)

Hand Sewing Needles, Machine needles, Fabric Scissor, Small thread scissor, Measuring Tape, Thread, Unpicker, Tailor’s Chalk, Pins, Seam Gauge, Sewing Kit Container, Pressing Cloth

SEWING MACHINE

 

Please ensure that your personal machines are serviced and in working order.  If you do not have a sewing machine, NWSD machines are available for rental (R100-00) – Please pre-book this!

 

 Please ensure to bring water and something to eat.

HOW DO I PAY?

COMPULSORY FEES

 

Registration Fee:  R200-00

This is your booking fee, which ensures your seat in class.  Please pay this at least 1 month prior to the course.  This is a non-refundable admin fee.

 

Course Fee:  R590-00

Please pay this on or before your first class

 

Photoshoot Fee:  R100-00

Please pay this on or before your first class

 

Material Fee is included in the Course Fee.
